RACE - #7

Written by Johanna Hobrath

On September 5, 2001, I sat in a church sanctuary.  The topic that evening centered upon "Grace."  There is no dispute about the vast interpretation when clarifying the word "Grace".

Throughout the past years of my life, "the Grace of God" has been accepted as a normal Godly Attribute" because I am a born-again, Spirit-filled Believer in Christ.

When taking an in-depth look at the word "Grace," a person may perceive a greater understanding when studying the "Attributes of Grace."  Words are not adequate when one realizes, with gratitude, that "God's Love and Grace" goes beyond the comprehension of human understanding.

What is "Grace"?  My dictionary defines "Grace" . . .

"Any attractive quality."

"An extension of time granted after a set time for paying a debt."

"The Love of God toward man."

"A short prayer at meal."

"The divine influence operating in man (person)."

"Any divinely inspired spiritual virtue of excellence."

The definition of "Any divinely inspired spiritual virtue of excellence" reminds me of a cliché that states, "to err is human, to forgive is divine."

Human nature, at times, wants to justify the wrongs of another person.  Although what is "right" is right, and what is "wrong" is wrong.  A wife or a husband may have to exercise grace in their daily relationship with one another--especially if the couple is not like-minded.  You or I may be living a Christian life, but there is no guarantee that the marriage relationship, although bound through God at the church altar, will provide smooth sailing.

On September 5, 2001, the "Grace Teaching" in a church sanctuary was focused upon an adulteress (John 8:1-8).  The Bible tells us that Jesus faced the crowd when a woman was brought to Him, and He said, ". . . He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."  When Jesus spoke those words, "He stooped down, and wrote on the ground."  (John 8:8).  After Jesus wrote on the ground, those in the crowd were convicted of their accusations.

While driving home that evening, my husband asked me, "what do you suppose Jesus wrote on the ground?"  My answer, "I have heard sermons on that subject, however, the Bible does not tell us that answer."  My husband then replied, "I cannot verify the following statement; however, I believe Jesus wrote several sins that the people committed; and after that writing, they were convicted of their own sins."  (John 8:6,7,8)

Scripture tells us in John 8:9, "And when they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last:  and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst."

God's Grace to mankind also teaches mankind to break barriers of prejudice, pride, and self-righteousness toward others.

II THESSALONIANS 2:16 states:

"NOW OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF AND GOD, EVEN OUR FATHER,

WHICH HATH LOVED US AND HATH GIVEN US

EVERLASTING CONSOLATION AND GOOD HOPE THROUGH GRACE."

"SALVATION IS THE BOUNTIFUL GRACE OF GOD TO MANKIND!"  Johanna
