OMMUNICATION
- #16

What does the Bible tell us about communication?
Hebrews
13:16 states, "But to do good and to communicate forget not:
for with such sacrifices God is well pleased."
The
Bible encourages communication among people. Also, Scripture warns
us about the content and the influence of bad communication.
I
Corinthians 15:33 states, "Be not deceived: evil
communications corrupt good manners."
I
Timothy 6:17 to 19 makes
reference to people that are wealthy, and
those Scripture
Verses read:
"Charge
them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust
in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all
things to enjoy;
"That
they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute,
willing to communicate;
"Laying
up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come,
that they may lay hold on eternal life."
What,
is communication? The dictionary tells us that communication
is: "the transmission of ideas, information - by speech or
writing - a message, etc."
How
does the husband and the wife communicate? (The answer may be given
privately by the individual husband and/or wife.)
On
Friday, October 26, 2001, my husband and I traveled approximately two
hours. We were en route to a lovely "Marriage Seminar"
that was sponsored via the Ohio District of the Assemblies of God
Denomination. The speaker - an excellent communicator - is a
Marriage and Family Therapist. The lodging and seminar took place in
a lovely Holiday Inn motel. I and my husband were privileged to be
participants to this wonderful and informative seminar.
That
Friday, my husband and I celebrated our 38th Wedding Anniversary. In
the evening, the entire group enjoyed being serenaded by a group of young
people while they were playing the violins and/or cellos.
Indeed, it was a romantic dinner celebration!

The
Marriage Seminar provided much information about the "Art of
Communicating" via the "Process" responses.
When
using good communication skills, humor in certain situations is also a
very good attribute.
The
speaker that evening shared about a husband who sought help from a
marriage counselor. The husband was told that, after work, he put
on clean clothes, buy flowers, and surprise his wife. In order to
have a nice evening, the husband followed the counselor's advice by
dressing nicely
after work, and by purchasing the flowers for his wife. The
husband then drove home and rang the doorbell at the front door.
The wife opened the front door and blurted the following sentences:
"I
had a terrible day - the washing machine overflowed with water, etc.
"Etc.
"And,
now, you come home drunk!"
(JH
Comment: What was the reaction of the husband?)
Today
(10-28-2001) my oldest son treated his mom and dad (my husband and me) to
a lovely dinner. While sharing about the beautiful Seminar, I
stated: "To summarize - you could say 'a person may disagree
agreeably'."
The
Scripture Verses in
Ephesians 5:1 and 2
tells me: "Be
ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love,
as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering
and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour." (KJV)
I
am grateful for God's Holy Word, and for the opportunity to be the Child
of God that my Heavenly Father desires through Jesus Christ and via His
Holy Spirit.
The
journey toward Heaven may not always be garnished with rose petals,
because the thorns in life sometimes hurt. However, I am so glad
that God loves me and you because Jesus, the Heavenly Shepherd, loves His
Children dearly!
