WHAT
IS THE TWILIGHT OF LIFE?
Written
by Johanna Hobrath (August 26, 2009)
The
dictionary tells us that “twilight is a condition following the waning of
past glory, achievement.” People’s lives may also be compared to the
present and/or the waning of glory -- or the state of present or past
achievements.
Today,
August 26, 2009, the news was told of the passing away of a famous senator;
namely, Senator Ted Kennedy. After one year, Mr. Ted Kennedy succumbed
to the condition of a brain tumor. The many news programs highlighted
the senator’s life that shared about his many political achievements.
Two
ladies and I decided to visit an elderly person today. The elderly
person has health issues and, therefore, is confined to her home. What
does the Bible tell us about religion? James 1:27 tells us:
“Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father
is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep
himself unspotted from the world.”
Today
we drove to a widow’s home, and we were blessed while spending a couple
hours visiting the 84-year-old Christian. During her younger years, she
spent her time participating in a number of church programs. And, now,
it is (*) Deborah’s desire to go on to the Glorious Eternity where the Glory
will never fade away.
(*)
Her real name was changed to "Deborah".
Today,
August 26, Deborah received the following poem that was framed in a lovely
golden-type frame:
~
THE SHEPHERD
OF
MY
SOUL
~
In
this valley, Lord, I am not alone
I
feel a peace that flows
From
my Heavenly Father’s Throne.
I
feel a Love that only You can give
A
comfort, that You are near
When
You speak that “Peace, be still.”
What
we experience throughout our lives
Are
lessons we must learn
And
allow You to be Our Guide.
Daily
You show me what needs to be done
Whether
working or praying
Before
the setting sun.
Each
day is a gift we must cherish and hold
I
thank You today, Lord,
For
being the Shepherd of my soul.

Before
the three visitors said their good-byes, they surrounded Deborah with
prayer. The “Sonshine” facilitator prayed a beautiful prayer and requested that
the Lord’s abiding love and protection continue to be with Deborah.

“But
we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the
Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by
the Spirit of the Lord.”
