My
husband and I have attended many wedding ceremonies and/or wedding
celebrations during the past years. From 1968 to 1977, while
living in New Jersey, we made many new acquaintances. Also, during
those years, we attended a country church that my brother-in-law was
privileged to establish. God also permitted many people to help
build the country church.
After
returning to the Ohio area, much time was devoted to the writing
ministry. During my quiet time, many poems were written and sent
to the Copyright Office in Washington, D.C.
While
living in the Ohio area, we were invited to attend a wedding ceremony
and reception in the state of New Jersey. The daughter, whose
parents were good friends of ours, had a beautiful wedding. I was
delighted when the following poem appeared in Pattie's Wedding Bulletin.

A
BRIDE'S
WEDDING
PRAYER
LORD,
today I bow my heart
Before
Thee on this Special Day
I
thank You, Lord, for loving me
And
being Master in all my ways
I
thank You, Lord, that a new life begins
As
I share it with my future spouse
Our
hearts bow humbly before You, God
When
we are married in God's House
May
You, Dear Lord, be part of us
In
everything we plan
And
bless us in the Coming Years
Until
we reach
The
Eternal Home in Heaven fair!

Today
(July 21, 2001) my husband and I were privileged to attend another
wedding celebration at a church where we worship. As I reviewed
the young couple standing at the church altar, my thoughts dwelled upon
how the times have changed.
Commitment
for the husband and for the wife ought to be a God-honoring
commitment. In other words, the marriage vow, in the presence of
God and mankind, should be forever. Granted, circumstances do
change; however, a couple that makes the marriage commitment should
realize that if God grants to them years to live on earth, then those
years should be lived together with Christ as the Head of the household
like Ephesians 5:23
tells us. Life may bring about heartaches and joys; but with
Christ we overcome and/or carry the "tears and joys of the
heart."
