THE REALITY OF A LIVING GOD . . . PAGE #61

AND

DOES GOD SPEAK TO THE HEARTS OF MANKIND?

Written by Johanna Stang Hobrath, January 9-13, 2012

This morning (1-9-2012) I took time to be in the presence of the Lord via the “Prayer Walk”.  Doing the “Prayer Walk” is often my style …………. if and when time permits for me to do so.  What is a “Prayer Walk”?  Some people may say “it is a type of praying” and/or going into a “Prayer Closet” …… indicating “taking time to be in communion with a Holy God”.

I firmly believe it is essential for me to be in close relationship with a God that rules from Heaven above.  And, this God in Heaven can be reached via Christ Jesus that united mankind with the Heavenly Father - if and when you accept Jesus into your heart.  Several days ago (12-25-2011) we celebrated the beautiful commemoration of Jesus having been born in the town of Bethlehem 2000 years ago.   I firmly believe that Jesus died for “All” mankind; and that the Heavenly Father wants a relationship and/or communion with His people.

What is a relationship and/or communion with God?  Simply put, “it is through prayer and/or attuning one’s heart to desiring an intimate relationship from your heart to the heart of God.  The Bible tells me:  "…he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him." ( Hebrews 11:6 )  The Scripture Verse tells me that “it is up to me if I want that intimate, spiritual relationship with the God of Heaven”.  Remember:  “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10)

The “Saving Grace” is a phenomenal occurrence and is ongoing to this day…so that some day anyone may visibly walk with Christ in the Glorious Eternity.   To understand such a phenomenon of permitting Christ to live in one’s heart brings the necessity of “faith in God”.  The Bible tells me: “…Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)

This morning (1-9-2012) during the “prayer walk”, the title for this article was placed upon my heart.  Yes, I believe in the God of Heaven through Jesus Christ my Saviour and His Holy Spirit. ( 1 John 5:7)

Perhaps you will ask: “how is ‘faith’ created?”.  The Bible refers to faith as follows:  “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)   In order to draw close to God, it is essential that the person have a desire to know more about the Attributes of God through reading the Bible and having that close relationship via a prayer life.

In the past and present generations, there were and are astounding people of great intellectual abilities, and such abilities bring about astonishing results.  In the pioneer days, there were also people attuned to the guidance of a God from Heaven.  In those days, the pioneer farmer depended upon the raising of crops and livestock for their survival in their daily lives.

In today’s society, many of us depend upon going to stores and buying the ready-grown vegetables and other ready-made products.  The farming communities are still dependent upon the rain and sunshine in order to achieve the successful production of crop.

The struggle for survival in today’s society may not be an easy task either.   When viewing the news throughout the world, we see and hear of the negative happenings within the societies of the world.   How can people cope when they are faced with those happenings?  From the human perspective, those people may face those happenings without or with believing in a Living God.   There is hope when a person trusts the Living God of Heaven that sees and hears the cries and prayers of a people that are in need.

Throughout the foregoing paragraphs, references have been made to the Precious Scriptures of the Holy Bible.  It would be wonderful if our lives were lived in the sunshine of “good and plenty”.   The “good and plenty” is not always available to people throughout the world.

While Jesus walked this earth, He told His disciples:  “For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.” (Mark 14:7)  Often times the question may be raised: “In dire situations, where is the God of Heaven?”.

While typing this article, my thoughts are focusing upon the fact that there are many intellectual people that believe in the God of Heaven.   And it is this God of Heaven that is “touched by our infirmities”. (Hebrews 4:15)

Did you know that many of the very educated scientists do believe in God?

If we take a look at the surroundings in our lives, we see the flowers that grow with the many variety of colors.   We see the birds that sing.   We see the sun that shines.   We see the rain that falls.   We see the snowflakes that cover a town like a white-winter blanket of snow.  Is all this creation by chance?  The book of Genesis, Chapter 1, Verse 31 tells me: “And God saw every thing that he made, and behold it was very good.  And the evening and the morning was the sixth day.”

Today (1-9-2012) I was curious as to what the scientists believe about the God of Heaven.  The internet is certainly an astounding tool for researching topics that may be of interest.  While doing research today, January 9, 2012, I came across an article that was written by a Dr. Francis Collins.

The article by Dr. Collins may be accessed via http://articles.cnn.com/2007-04-03/us/collins.commentary_1_god-dna-revelation?_s=PM:US

The article is entitled:  “Collins: Why this scientist believes in God”, April 03, 2007, by Dr. Francis Collins Special to CNN (Portions of the article read as follows)

“I am a scientist and a believer, and I find no conflict between those world views.

“As the director of the Human Genome Project, I have led a consortium of scientists to read out the 3.1 billion letters of the human genome, our own DNA instruction book.  As a believer, I see DNA, the information molecule of all “living things, as God's language, and the elegance and complexity of our own bodies and the rest of nature as a reflection of God's plan.

“I did not always embrace these perspectives.  As a graduate student in physical chemistry in the 1970s, I was an atheist,  etc.

“I had to admit that the science I loved so much was powerless to answer questions such as "What is the meaning of life?"  "Why am I here?"  "Why does mathematics work, anyway?"  "If the universe had a beginning, who created it?"  "Why are the physical constants in the universe so finely tuned to allow the possibility of complex life forms?"  "Why do humans have a moral sense?"  "What happens after we die?"

“I had always assumed that faith was based on purely emotional and irrational arguments, and was astounded to discover, initially in the writings of the Oxford scholar C.S. Lewis and subsequently from many other sources, that one could build a very strong case for the plausibility of the existence of God on purely rational grounds.

Etc.”

(1-12-2012 a.m. - JSH)  I firmly believe that the occurrences that come our way, are many times for our focusing upon what God is trying to tell us with those happenings.

From time to time, I have been able to read a thought-provoking poem that appeared on the funeral information card of a person that had gone on to be with the Lord in Heaven.  The poem reads as follows:

 ~ I AM FREE ~

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free,

I'm following the path God has for me.

I took His hand when I heard Him call,

I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day,

To laugh,, to love, to work, or play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way,

I found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void,

Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,

Oh, yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow,

I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life's been full, I savored much;

Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,

Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your hearts and peace to thee,

God wants me now;

He set me free!

Last evening (1-11-2011), I and my husband walked into a cemetery chapel.  We met many people that we have known over the many years.   A loving, immediate family group had gathered from various states.   Many other people also paid their respect to a “Loved One” that had gone to be with the Lord.  The “Loved One” rested peacefully in the casket and was surrounded with many beautiful floral arrangements.  The “Loved One” was a 90-year-old uncle; namely, my husband’s uncle, and was named “Onkel Franz”.

“Onkel Franz” was a well-liked, outgoing Christian.  I and my husband saw him many times in the House of Worship where his immediate family also worshipped.

Throughout the years, “Onkel Franz“ had much to share about his imprisonment during World War II.   During his capture, his father and mother did not know if their son was alive because “Onkel Franz“ had been imprisoned in Russia for five years.   During his lifetime, “Onkel Franz” shared of an astounding incident:

As a young soldier during World War II, “Onkel Franz” was called to join a group of other soldiers.   His mother, at that time, gave him a pocket Bible and requested that Franz carry the Bible in his pocket.   As the war progressed, Franz continued to carry the pocket Bible that his mother had given him.   During an encounter with the enemy, Franz shared that someone had shot a rifle, and the bullet lodged in the pocket Bible that was in his shirt pocket.

(Johanna’s comment:   Are coincidences, in our lives, “just” coincidences?  Dear reader:  “God has your and/or my life in His Divine Hands!” J.S.H.)

(1-12-2011 a.m.)   Dear reader:  Must run along now and get ready to attend the funeral service at the cemetery chapel for the 90-year-old “Onkel Franz”.  What spiritual blessings will God share with me at the chapel?

(1-13-2012)  The funeral service, that was held yesterday, January 12, 2012 at the cemetery chapel for "Onkel Franz" was phenomenal!!!

"FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD,

THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON,

  THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM

  SHOULD NOT PERISH,

  BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE."
