PRAYING
AND READING
GOD'S
WORD
A
HABIT?
- #41
Written
by Johanna Hobrath
I
have been a Christian for many years. During those years, my
faith in God has taught me that it is a miracle that I am living in the
United States of America.
I
realize that many people, throughout this vast universe, may speak about
real life stories that attest to the fact that a Sovereign God has been at
the helm of their life's boat that, at times, has sailed the "Rough
Seas of Life."
It
is a tremendous privilege for a mother to instill a "Living Faith in
the God of Heaven." As a young child, I was taught about a
"Reverential Attitude toward the God of the Holy Trinity."
Miracles
in life do occur, and I am grateful to know about God via Jesus Christ and
the Holy Spirit.

The following article, entitled "IS
PRAYING AND READING GOD'S
WORD A HABIT?"
was written several weeks ago
and speaks about the important subject of "Faith through Praying and
the Reading of God's Word."
IS
PRAYING
AND
READING
GOD'S
WORD
A HABIT?

The
praying person believes in a Higher Authority as stated in Daniel
2:28,
and it is God that rules over all the earth (read
Matthew 5:45).
Psychologists
and/or psychiatrists will tell you that the influence from the
surroundings during one’s childhood years does shape the character of
the child. As an adult, the person makes decisions that influence everyday
living. During everyday living, Godly values are extremely important for
the wholesome life. I am grateful to have had a Christian mother that
taught me, at a young age, to pray to the God of Heaven. Today, as a
grownup, it is my privileged choice to live the Christian life.
A
person needs food and water in order to exist and to stay healthy. The
soul of mankind also needs “Spiritual Food and Water,” so that growth
can be achieved in the realm of “Spirituality.” Spirituality need not
be a mystical existence, but is, however, a necessity for the Christian
that desires to be obedient to God—therefore, serving a Holy God from
Monday to and including Sunday.
Jesus
taught His disciples about the Heavenly Kingdom and the importance of
praying to the Heavenly Father (Matthew
6:9-13). A
Christian may also come to the Heavenly Father via praying and reading the
Holy Scripture; namely, the Bible. During the devotional time, the Holy
Spirit may shine His Light into the corners of one’s heart. Tears may
flow during one’s prayer time because of adoration to the Holy God; or,
because the wounds of the soul must be brought to someone that understands
your anguish; or, because you intercede for a person that needs an answer
to life’s problems. God listens and does answer prayers; however, the
answer may be “yes,” “no,” or “wait awhile."
For
many years, the praying person may bring unresolved conflicts to the
throne of God. Keep praying, dear reader! There is a God in Heaven that
sees your need (Jeremiah
33:3).
God’s
Word is a “...lamp
unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm
119:105).
Also, the “Spiritual Strength” is derived via prayer, reading from the
Word of God, and the reading of Christian literature.
Scripture
tells me in John
6:32,33,35
“Then
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not
that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from
heaven.
“For
the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto
the world.
“And
Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall
never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”
I
am eternally grateful for the Christ of Calvary that now is seated at the
Right Hand of the Heavenly Father. As a believer, you or I will some day
walk visibly with Jesus—the Saviour of the world and soon-coming King! (Acts
2:32,33)
