Has
it ever occurred to you that in the very beginning (Genesis,
Chapters One, Two and Three) God
had sweet fellowship with Adam and Eve in the
Garden
of Eden? This particular Garden is also referred to as “Paradise”.
(The dictionary tells me that “Paradise” is a state of, or a place of
great beauty and delight.)
It
must have been absolutely “delightful” to have lived in the Garden of
Eden. Adam probably was able to pick any kind of fruit from the
variety of trees that God created for such a purpose. The Bible does
not tell us that Adam had a house or a kitchen where he had to cook his
meals. I really believe that Adam was able to pick certain edible
herbs and fruit that totally nourished his body. God had created
everything perfectly for Adam—and anything that he ate had the many
nutrients that Adam’s body needed.
God
saw that Adam did not have a companion. I think God felt sorry for
Adam. You see, God was not with Adam all the time—God only came to
visit him “in
the cool of the day.” (Genesis 3:8)
And
so it was. One day, God caused a deep sleep to come to Adam.
And, as Adam slept, God took a rib from his side and formed a woman.
Don’t
you think my God is the best physician of all times? God did not need
an operating room. He did not need any particular devices. God
probably took His Hands and separated the rib cage in a very loving
manner. He then took one of Adam’s ribs and formed another beautiful
body, the body of a woman.
The
Bible tells me in Genesis
2:22, “And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a
woman, and brought her unto the man.”
(We
hear much about “love at first sight.” In reality, you need to
know about the person that you will be marrying. You need to know
about their likes and dislikes. Also, it is better to marry someone
that has the same interests at heart; and, above all, make sure that he or
she is a Christian that has faith in the Living God. The Bible
speaks of “Be ye not unequally yoked
together with unbelievers . . . .” (II Corinthians 6:14) Someone
once made a remark, “Don’t marry because you want a bed partner, but
marry because you want a ‘life partner.’”)
When
referring to the first Bible couple, you might say, “But, they did not get
married.” Just think for a moment—God put that couple
together. And, just think, they were a perfect couple. Adam and
Eve lived in Paradise and had everything at their disposal. I wonder
if Eve had to cook in Paradise? Perhaps Adam did make a stove for Eve,
so that she could cook the different types of herbs that were growing
abundantly in the Garden of Eden. I also believe that Adam and Eve
lived together like children, enjoying each other’s company—and
discovering the vast and beautiful Paradise that God had given to them.
(Marriage
should be like God intended. The home should be the paradise that
God has given to the husband and the wife. It is God’s design that
a couple lives together in harmony and enjoys the growing years that God
has and is granting to the couple and their family. And, when the “cool
of the
evening” comes, the entire family can
gather around the supper table and have a talk with God—via praying
and/or reading the Bible.)
Psalm
128:3 tells
us: “Thy
wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children
like olive plants round about thy table.”
Coming
back to the Bible Paradise—Adam and Eve were able to enjoy their living
domain that God so gloriously supplied for them. They were indeed like
children, enjoying the day and reaping more joy in the evening when God
visited them in the “cool
of the day” (Genesis 3:8) I
wonder if Eve prepared the place in a special way when God came to visit
them. And, what type of conversation did Adam and Eve have with God? I
believe Adam and Eve probably had much to say. Most likely they shared
with God what they saw on a given day. Do you suppose they complained
to God? I do not believe that they complained about their
surroundings. I believe they were grateful. They probably
thanked God that He provided such a beautiful Paradise for them.
However,
the story does not end here. God gave Adam and Eve “everything” in
His power to make them happy. However, there was one condition.
What was the one condition that Adam and Eve had to abide by? Was it a
condition too difficult to keep? Was it a condition that demanded
obedience?
God
demanded only “one” thing from Adam and Eve. And, that “one”
thing was “obedience.”
Genesis
2:17 tells
us: “But
of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat it: for in
the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”
God
said it, but Eve did not believe it. Satan, in his cunning way,
crawled and slithered along the branches of a tree. There was “forbidden”
fruit growing on that particular tree. As Eve beheld that fruit, Satan
enticed her to eat that fruit. Eve dared not keep this sin to herself
and, therefore, she enticed her husband. Adam also ate from the
forbidden fruit.
The
“cool of the day” approached and God wanted sweet fellowship with His
children. However, Adam and Eve were not there to have that sweet
fellowship with God. Adam and Eve became wise and knowledgeable in
their sin. They knew they had done wrong, and they could not face
their Creator. (Reference: Genesis
Chapters One, Two and Three)
Had
Adam and Eve not sinned in the Garden of Eden, the woes of mankind would
not be prevalent on earth.
Throughout
the ages, however, God had a plan. The plan was to unite mankind
unto Himself through the Powerful, Precious Blood of Christ. Atonement,
Redemption, Forgiveness can be achieved through Calvary’s Crimson Flow.
A
husband and wife may not always have the perfect marriage. However,
God made provision whereby the husband and the wife can be joined together
in a deeper love relationship through Christ.
The
Bible tells us that God placed Cherubims (angels) and a flaming sword “.
. . at the east of the garden of Eden.”
(Genesis 3:24) This indicated that
Adam and Eve could never return to the garden of Eden.
Because
of the sin in the garden of Eden, to this day the sins of Adam and Eve were
passed on to the generations that followed.
Have
you ever wondered whether Adam and Eve missed that close fellowship they had
with God in the garden of Eden during “the
cool of the day“? (Genesis
3:8)
The
God that visited Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden is still the same God of
today.
Although
we may not visibly see the presence of God, we can experience His Precious
Presence through prayer and the reading of His Word. And, certainly,
we can visibly see and experience His Blessings in our daily lives.
