BEING
GRATEFUL
Written
by Johanna Hobrath
In
the month of October (2004), I briefly viewed a morning show from
the television screen. During the morning show, an
advertisement came to my attention. The advertisement told of
the generous support that terminally-ill children receive from the
Wal-Mart organization. It is said that those children may
attend the Walt Disney Center and enjoy being out-doors for several
days instead of having to be in the hospital.
During
the month of November, many of our thoughts are directed toward
"Thanksgiving". On a "Thanksgiving" day,
families gather and enjoy the visiting time with their families
and/or groups of friends. During that time, we may focus our
hearts toward the children that are stricken with ill health, or
loved ones that have gone to their eternal home; or sons and
daughters that serve in the military.
Actually,
on a day-to-day basis, my heart does gratefully focus upon the tasks
that I am able to accomplish. Also, praying for needs -
immediate or outside the family circle - is an important aspect in
my life. [I Corinthians
14:15]
Indeed,
I am grateful that I know my Jesus is at the Right Hand of my
Heavenly Father and that He intercedes for any sincere heart. [I
John 2:1,2] That type of
belief and assurance helps me to express gratefulness in every-day
living.
During
the “Thanksgiving” holiday, the servicemen in Iraq, as well the
servicemen stationed elsewhere, will be prayerfully remembered as
they continue to faithfully serve for the freedom of this Nation.
Several
weeks ago, I received an email message that speaks “Volumes” of
emotions about the servicemen in uniforms. The 2004 November
E-Newsletter carries a second page that displays photographs of the
servicemen that are stationed in Iraq. Most likely, those
photographs will not appear in the news media. To view the
second page from the 2004 November E-Newsletter, please click

Also,
several weeks ago, I viewed a brief version of a religious talk
show. During that talk show, Sheryl McGuinness shared about
her plight in life. The tragedy of the Twin Towers in New York
evokes astonishment, sorrow for the lost lives, anger, and sincere
prayers for the devastation that America had to endure.
The
life of the McGuiness family continues to give hope in a Living,
Loving God.
A
quotation from the McGuiness Website reads as follows:
"Tom McGuinness was the co-pilot of the American Airlines
Flight 11 ... that plane eventually flew into the North Tower of the
World Trade Center."

You may click into a brief speech from Sheryl McGuinness as well as
the speech from her daughter Jennifer. At one point, Jennifer
stated: "God loves us so much!"
JH
Comment: It is, indeed, incredible, when, after much tragedy,
a person or persons can pick themselves up via the power of God
through Christ Jesus and with the help from the Holy Spirit.
In sad times and good times we may know that we serve a Jesus that
is touched with our infirmities and understands us in times of
sorrows, tears, and/or happiness.
This
"Thanksgiving 2004"
may we again lift our hearts toward Heaven and be grateful for what
we do have; and, at the same time, remember other persons that need
our prayers.
