 The
month of September 2002 brings the memory of the many lives that were
ushered into eternity on September 11, 2001. On that day, the twin
towers in New York city collapsed because of the terrorist attack; also a
plane crashed in Pennsylvania; and a portion of the building at the
Pentagon was damaged due to planes purposely causing such devastation.
Undoubtedly,
many people are grieving for the lives of mothers, fathers, sons,
daughters, aunts, uncles, and the many friends.
For
the September 2002 Newsletter, I am also sharing an experience that
occurred in May 2000 . . .
DOES
YOUR HEART CRY
WHEN
A CHRISTIAN LEAVES THIS WORLD?
[MAY
28, 2000]
My
husband and I have attended church services for many weeks, months, and
years. Whenever people greeted one another in the church where we
are attendants, one elderly lady often greeted me and my husband.
One day, the elderly lady was asked by me, “What is your name again?”
Her reply was, “Elsie, like Elsie the cow.” I chuckled with
Elsie. Elsie, however, did not look like a cow; she was always an
outgoing, friendly Christian.
On
another day, while approaching Elsie, I said to her, “You are always
such a faithful Christian.” Elsie smiled and replied, “I try to
be.”
The
last few weeks [May 2000] prayer was expressed for Elsie
because she had to endure cancer treatments. I missed the friendly
greetings and smiles from Elsie. One Sunday morning, during the
worship service, the announcement was made that Elsie was dying.
After the church service of that morning, I asked Jane if Elsie is well
enough to receive a “Get Well Card.”
That
evening [May 28, 2000] the announcement was made that Elsie died at 5:05
p.m. Indeed, Elsie was not a cow. She was a precious child of
God that will be missed by me because of her friendliness.
Elsie
is now rejoicing in Heaven with my Redeemer and Saviour, the Lord Jesus
Christ. I am sure that many other saints are rejoicing with
Elsie. Elsie, now living in her Heavenly Home, will no longer have
to endure earthly pain. I
may be somewhat sorry that my card with a heartfelt greeting was never
written to Elsie; however, her joys are now greater than from any greeting
card that she had received.
That
evening [May 28, 2000] as I and my husband stopped at the church altar, we
were praising and singing "THERE
IS A RIVER, etc."
During the praising and singing time that evening, bittersweet tears
stained my eyes. The tears came from the heart because of the
Powerful Presence of God and because a saint--by the name of Elsie--had
left a void in a congregation.
Dear
reader, the Power of God is real! You may not sense the Power of God
in the palms of your hands, but you can feel the Presence of the Holy
Spirit in your heart.
Some
day, in the Eternal Home, I shall recognize the smile from Elsie.
Until then, I shall faithfully write what the Spirit of God places upon my
heart. With confidence I can claim what the Holy Bible teaches
me: "Likewise
the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should
pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us
with groanings which cannot be uttered." Romans 8:26
I
believe that Elsie believed with all her heart what Jesus said in John
7:37 and 38.
HAVE
YOU APPLIED THE LIVING WATER TO YOUR LIFE TODAY? THE LIVING WATER DOES
FLOW FROM THE THRONE OF GOD. PSALM 42:1 tells me: "AS THE HART
(DEER) PANTETH AFTER THE WATER BROOKS, SO PANTETH MY SOUL AFTER THEE, O
GOD.”
Just
think for a moment--Elsie is walking in the Visible Presence of God!
