DO
YOU
KNOW
JESUS
CHRIST?
Written
by Johanna Hobrath, June 24, 2005
It
was a sunny day on June 24th. My husband and I had a number of plans
for that day. I was to go grocery shopping, and my husband was
planning to work in the yard.
In
the grocery store that morning, June 24, 2005, I selected the food items
and other products from the grocery aisles and placed the items into my
shopping cart. Toward the end of my completing the shopping tasks, I
decided to purchase a couple paper towels. While in the paper
products section, a refined, elderly lady complained as she looked at a
tower of paper products that contained several paper rolls in package
forms. This lady was unable to retrieve a package of her choice.
"How
does one get those rolls?" the lady asked me in a firm tone.
"Those
paper rolls are stacked very high," I replied.
And,
then, along came a sprightly young mom and pulled at the packages.
While doing so, down came several packages of paper rolls.
The
dear mom stated, "my kids are always throwing something at
me." I chuckled at that remark; and, then, the sprightly young
mom continued to do her grocery shopping.
The
refined, elderly lady intrigued me. Her somewhat grumpy attitude
(although she may have been right about the complaint) told me that she
may be having a rough day. The woman continued to speak to me and
said, "the way things are, I am ready to go."
"May
I ask you something?" I kindly said to her. "What do you
think about religion and Heaven?" I continued to ask the other
question.
I
believe the woman was startled at my questions. At this point in
time, another lady stopped by with her shopping cart and listened to the
conversation.
"Of
course there is only one God, and He is above everyone," I continued
to speak to the elderly lady. The woman then told me that she lost
her husband four years ago to the Alzheimer disease. I replied with
empathy and said, "it is difficult for the person that suffers and
for the person that is a caregiver."
"It
is much harder for the caregiver," the elderly lady replied.
She then continued to tell me that her husband was a professor. She
also agreed that there is one God above everyone. I kindly stated
that ultimately we need to accept Jesus into our hearts and lives, and He
leads us to Heaven, because "He is the
way, the truth, and the life." [John 14:6]
The
other lady that was listening to the two of us then replied, "I agree
100% with that."
The
elderly lady then spoke defensively and said, "I don’t believe
anyone should force religion on any body." And, then, the
87-year old refined woman continued to do her grocery shopping with her
shopping cart.
I
was delighted to continue to speak to the middle-aged, Catholic
woman. She told me that she also believes in faith-healing.
Recently (2005), Channel 5 (from the Cleveland, Ohio area) gave reports of
faith-healing that occurred through a doctor. The middle-aged woman
spoke about the many paths that people take and that those paths lead to
Heaven.
The
Bible is very clear and tells us that "Jesus
is the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father
(Heavenly Father) except through Him (Jesus Christ)." [John
14:6]
The
Catholic woman and I were delighted that we had met each other, and went
on our way to complete the grocery shopping.
Will
the 87-year old, refined lady make it to Heaven some day? I hope
so! Seeds of faith were planted on June 24th, 2005.
[The
Bible makes reference to planting and watering - speaking in the spiritual
sense. See I
Corinthains 3:6-9]

And,
now, in the evening of June 24th, 2005, I must water the lawn and
the flowers.
May
the True Gardener of the universe bless your heart through Jesus
Christ the Saviour of the world!
