[Tuesday, 08-24-04]  Today is a sunny day.  Beyond the Thunersee (Lake), the fluffy clouds do, at times, surround the many mountains.  We trust that the sun will shine this afternoon so that our group of nine persons may travel to a nearby city.  (The nine persons are:  My husband and I, a missionary couple (in-laws), a young couple from Germany with their two children and the couple's mother.)

The missionary couple (in-laws, Alfred and Ernestine) are conducting daily morning and evening "Devotions".  One morning, Alfred spoke about the Scriptures that referred to "the five wise virgins" and "the five foolish virgins".

[October 21, 2004]  The Scriptures about "the five wise virgins" and "the five foolish virgins" may be read from God's Word via Matthew Chapter 25.

[Wednesday, August 25, 2004]  Today we are having lovely weather.  While viewing the beautiful scenery from the third floor Park Hotel window, I see the wind is causing gentle waves on the "Thunersee" (Thuner Lake).  A few of the mountains sparingly display clouds that hover like fluffy cotton throughout the mountain region.  The golden sunrays cause the Swiss homes and the few meadows appear like a magnificant panorama that is an ideal subject for any phtographer.

[Thursday, August 26, 2004]  This morning, after thePathParkHotel400x268.jpg (75863 bytes) "Devotional" meeting, it will be time for more "Post Card" writing.  When the weather becomes clear, the group of nine persons will go for a walk along "Thunersee" (Thuner Lake) and, thus, continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Swiss Alps.  [October 22, 2004 - The photo to the right displays a couple - Johanna and Adam - when they walked along the path near the Park Hotel.]

P.S.  During the "Devotional" meeting of this morning, the folowing chorus (presented in German) was a tremendous blessing to me:

"I have a mansion, just over the hilltop, .... and some day yonder, I will never more wander, but walk the streets made of purest gold?"   [Revelation 21:21]

(P.S.  10/21/04:  While typing the above information, my thoughts focus to the times when we vacationed in the beautiful Swiss Alps.  Somehow when you think about such a beautiful vacation place, you can't help but focus upon the eternity where the scenery with Christ and His saints will outshine any place that you think is beautiful in this world.  What mansion will you own in Heaven?)

Today (August 26th) is a rainy day.  The group of nine persons areParkHotel400x282.jpg (79478 bytes) making this day a "rest" day.  This afternoon, however, I decided to go to the lovely Park Hotel lounge room and helped myself to a glass of juice.  While sitting and then standing, I enjoyed the view of the lovely garden, the Thunersee (Thuner Lake) with the swimming ducks, the scenery of the nearby mountains with its Swiss houses nestled to the right and left side of the Park Hotel, and the other distant, cloud-covered mountains.  [October 22, 2004 - The picture to the right was photographed from a path that led to a top of a mountain near the Park Hotel.  The Park Hotel can be seen facing the Thunersee (Thuner Lake).

As I continued to stand and in awe marveled at God's creation [Genesis, Chapter One], I asked, "God, what are You speaking to me today?"  The answer to my heart was:  "You see the cloud-covered mountains.  The situations in life may, at times, seem dismal, but, remember, just as the sun shines beyond those clouds, I, Jehovah God, oversee the good and sad times in your life.  Know this, 'I am with you until the end of times.' "  [Matthew28:20]

Prayer:  "Dear Jesus, how much I love You and praise You because of the 'Power of Salvation' through the Holy Spirit.  Amen!"  JH

[Friday, August 27, 2004]  The weather in the "Gunten" area is perfect for the enjoyment of a full day in Switzeland.  Today weWaterFall400x274.jpg (100830 bytes) traveled to Lauterbrunnen.  [October 22, 2004 - The photo to your right gives an awesome view of a mountain that has a waterfall cascading from its rocks.  Many high mountains have snow throughout the year.  When the sun does melt a portion of the snow, the water then seeps through the rocks, thus giving an awesome sight to the travelers.  To view the photograph in a larger format, click the photo to your right.]

From Lauterbrunnen we traveled via a train to the mountain regionCityWengen400x322.jpg (112386 bytes) of Wengen.  The city of Wengen is located on top of a high mountain.  The city of Wengen displays many Swiss hotels as well as homes for the people that work in that region.  The name of the mountain area is called "Jungfraujoch".  The "Jungfraujoch" gave a panoramic view that displayed an awesome sight of snow-covered mountains.

P.S.  In order to reach Wengen, a train brought us to the city that is located on top of the mountain.  The train ride takes thirtyPkgThree313x400.jpg (128708 bytes) minutes and gave us oppportunity to see the gorgeous scenery of mountain peaks and Swiss villages that are graciously situated in the valleys and throughout the slopes of the mountains.  Wengen, a city on top of a mountain, has smooth streets whereby the visitors may see shops and/or stroll leisurely along the street.  The group of nine enjoyed a leisure walk along the street in the city of Wengen on this balmy August day [8/27/04].

Along the road, we saw the St. Bernard church.  We entered the lovely country church that displayed numerous benches.  The stained-glass window at the church altar showed an enormous dove, representative of the Holy Spirit.  According to a brochure entitled "St. Bernard's Wengen", the church is in existence since 1928.  In the year 2003, they celebrated their 75th Anniversary.  The brochure also states:

"Wengen's Church of England church opened in January 1928.  Since then, tens of thousands of English-speaking people from all over the world have worshipped there; as have many local people.  Situated in the beautiful Jungfrau region of Switzerland, many visit the church to reflect, pray, and worship God."

Prayer:  "Thank You God for Jesus, thank You God for the Holy Spirit!"  JH

Tomorrow, August 28, 2004, the group of nine persons will travel to Speyer, Germany -- a four-hour drive from Switzerland.
