THE
VALLEY
AND/OR
MOUNTAINTOP
OF
LIFE
~
Written
by Johanna Hobrath
(January
2010)
When
Jesus walked this earth, He taught the people via parables. Jesus used
parables that conveyed a correlation between every-day living and the
Kingdom of Heaven. Those messages taught truths that you and I may
apply to our daily life.
Daily
life may bring a person to valley/mountaintop experiences - so to
speak. In the valley experience, a person may say: “if only - then I
could be happier.” The “if only” syndrome may occur because of
the lack of money, the lack of a job, the lack of better health, the lack of
friends, and the “if only” syndrome may go on and on.
True,
our circumstances in life may bring about the “if only” syndrome;
however, how may the “if only” syndrome be resolved? There is a
song that tells us: “One day at a time, dear Jesus, etc.” When dwelling
in the “if only”, then the future picture that God has for you and me
may cloud one’s judgment for having “peace
that passes all understanding.” (Philippians 4:7)
All
of us may come to a valley in life, so to speak. Perhaps we have
prayed for more mountaintop experiences; and, yet, in the valley the Heavenly
Shepard, the Lord Jesus Christ,
may say: “my
child, I see your need in this valley, and I will help you endure no matter
what comes your way.” (James 5:13)

PRAYER ~
Lord,
if I speak “if only” and/or “why” in the valley of life,
always help me to know that I may endure because you care for your
children. Lord Jesus Your Word tells me: “…(You) will
never leave (me), nor forsake (me).” (Hebrews 13:5)

On
October 24, 2005, I was privileged to write a poem entitled “God in the
Valley and the Mountaintop”. The poem reads as follows:
~
GOD
IN
THE
VALLEY
AND
THE
MOUNTAINTOP
~
On
a mountaintop, life seems to be filled with joy
I
have walked through many valleys that speak of pain and toil,
Jesus
is the God in my valley
He
is God when walking the mountaintop.
Life
may be compared to roses
That
bloom throughout the seasons of life,
The
thorns of sorrow may prick at times
But
prayer will bring understanding in situations that go awry.
I
know God when walking in the valley
I
know God when I walk the mountaintop,
And
some day we will walk side by side
With
Jesus and saints forever to abide.
